More Video - Mountain Pass

I was too busy at the wheel to record which pass this is. We had several today, and on tape they all look similar. I can tell you that this was between Durango an Vail ;)

On the next leg of the tour, I will try turning the camera backwards and see how that works out.

Hi Sid, Elaine, Mitch, & Michelle,

All is well in Spring. Power was out for a couple days, lots of wind but very little rain. It was 103 here yesterday and 102 today. If you come across any extra cool weather send it down this way. Looks like you are having a great trip. Bill E.

Hi John,

I have never driven in the mountains like this. My car usually has plenty of low end torque, but on the passes I have to keep the revs around 4K or so to have decent power.

After all the messing around with the video, I agree, it looks pretty good. Several of us are recording, and it will all be edited to create a tour DVD.

-Bill, thanks for the update. I wish we could send a little cool weather to Houston, plenty to spare here. I hope your house is OK. We had no damage, just lots of clutter all over the yard.

Did dad mention we need a bit of welding? One of the headlight brackets vibrated itself silly. For now it is held on with a hose clamp, or Jubilee clamp as our tour friends call it. I think I know why, because you are so happy when the darn thing fixes your problem!

Aye, that looks like Wolf Creek Pass. Probably the fastest of the five passes that day (i.e., little need to downshift, sadly).

I've trundled over that pass at 10 mph many a time in winter, and it definitely gets more interesting with a couple feet of fresh snow...

Amusing sidebar: One year I stopped to help an elderly couple in the chain-up area. They were driving a front-drive Ford Focus. Turns out they had put chains on their rear wheels -- and were wondering why they still had wheelspin!

Nice photos! Keep 'em comin'...
