Fix it along the way

Fortunately my Birkin has been relatively trouble free the five years I have owned it. Of course, it decided to give me major grief the first day of the tour, which thankfully is fully sorted.

Now that we are several full driving days in, other cars have had problems. The thing that really impresses me is the positive attitude of the tourers. Broken? Fix it. Stuck? Tow it. Simple as that, especially when you have 60+ friends ready to do whatever they can to help.

I am learning quickly what spares I should bring. I'm thinking a fuel pump would be a good item to add to the kit.

Mitch,
Nice job updating your blog! It's great to see such comradery. Do you find you end up driving with the same group of cars? I suppose it depends on your driving style and comfort level. Keep up the great diary...and enjoy.

Yesterday, I remembered the old phrase about mad dogs and Englishmen and the noonday sun. Today, I'm happy to hear that the hands across the water have never been so well bonded. Thanks for the interesting blog - and the cool pics from Sat.! We want a rematch when y'all are back - our Birkin is running like a top again!

Hi Al,

Dick, Bernie and I try to stick together. Other than that we have tried to find a group to drive with, but it is difficult to coordinate. The cars have different gas (oh sorry, petrol) requirements, so we might hook up with a group, only to have to stop because they filled up more recently than we did.

Today we drove with the Saga group. I really enjoyed the day with them. There were some fairly serious car problems, but the group held together and no one got left behind.

I'm glad you like the blog, I'll keep posting as we go.

Hi Amy,

Congrats on fixing the Birkin so quickly!

Yes, the hands are together here. As I understand it tomorrow one of the Caterhams is getting an engine replaced, and I heard talk that his current one would be rebuilt to replace the spare. Have it done by lunch time, no worries :)
